The Arianrod Labyrinth is a dungeon in Valkyrie Profile. It is only accessible on the Hard mode, in Chapter 8.

Description

Lenneth in one of the 25 rooms of the Arianrod Labyrinth. The teleporter on this room, at its current setting, will take Lenneth to Room 14 (3 + 11).

Situated on an island off the northwestern coast of Midgard, close to the Celestial Castle, the incongruous Arianrod Labyrinth, which has apparently been created by a demon, consists of 25 self-contained rooms with transparent walls which appear to be floating in limbo (aside of the 25th room which have solid walls), linked by teleportation mechanisms that functions on simple mathematical operations.

Most rooms in the Arianrod Labyrinth contains one or two machines to determine the teleporter's destination, with each machine having two possible numbers linked to it. Whenever two machines are present in a room, the right-hand machine also assigns the operand which is to be used in the calculation (-, x, or ÷); if there is no operand indicated, the operation is a sum (+).

Etymology

Arianrhod is the name of a goddess of the stars in Welsh mythology. She is sometimes equated with Ariadne from Greek mythology, the princess who helped Theseus navigate the Minotaur's labyrinth, hence the name of this dungeon.

Trivia

• Along with the Clockwork Mansion, the Arianrod Labyrinth is one of two dungeons which are somewhat reminiscent of the film Cube in the design of their puzzles, specifically the mechanism that links each of the rooms.
